About Regeneration - Janet Gill Kirkman- Regional Network Leader, Hume Region. Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
Regeneration in Seymour is a great chance to ensure “Every Child has Every Opportunity” to experience high quality education in state of the art facilities.
The project must ensure that a quality model of teaching and learning practice informs the appointed architects of innovative building design that will work for the children and students of tomorrow, but also for their children’s children.
Key elements of 21st Century learning must be taken into account to consider the learning styles of these and future students. Access to ICT, multi –media and intranet facilities will be a key consideration.
Varied teaching approaches must also enter design considerations: The teacher and students may engage in explicit instruction, project based learning, research based, team work, field based, individual learning contracts, specialised disciplines and/ or integrated thematic curriculum.
Regeneration is about complex discussions and decisions made by communities that all contribute to a coherent future plan for the benefit of EVERY Seymour child. The four school communities of Seymour Special, Seymour East, Seymour Primary and Seymour Technical High School are now involved in collaborative community decision making. To mature these discussions, involvement by a multiple of education providers and key partnerships with other organisations will enhance future planning.
It is an exciting and yet daunting time for current school communities who may feel anxious around the process of change. This is a rare and significant opportunity for the Seymour community to combine to achieve the best outcomes for EVERY child and young person for today, tomorrow and in the future.
